There are so many great makeup looks to try this holiday season. If you’re looking to go a bit more dramatic this year why not try going femme fatale and start by getting yourself the perfect dark red lipstick? Read on for tips on how to get velvety, matte, femme fatale lips as well as what products to try. Also, find my review of Bite Beauty’s Line and Define Lip Primer and High Pigmented Pencil straight afterwards.
Step one: prep your lips.
When applying dark red lipstick, every flaw and sign of dead skin on your lips will be exacerbated tenfold. Beat chapped and flaky lips by using a good lip scrub after a hot shower. It will also help color last longer.
Step two: femme fatale lips start with a good base.
Applying lip primer may seem like a superfluous step, but trust me it’s a step worth taking the time to do. Lip primer will keep your lipstick where it belongs—on your lips. It keeps your lipstick from feathering and bleeding and will help to give that velvety, smooth texture.
Step three: the rouge.
These lipsticks are strong in color and in statement. They will stay on your lips for rather a long time too.
Bite Beauty markets all their products for containing resveratol, which fights free radicals with potent long-term anti-aging benefits. They add, ‘Each lip pencil contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine.’ It takes five glasses of wine to get anti-aging effects?! Who knew? Well at least now you don’t have to get drunk to achieve youthful looking lips!
Initially I only came in for the High Pigment Pencil, but found the Lip Primer placed just below it, and I’m glad I did. It smoothes out my lips and gives it that feathery, velvet texture that screams, “Kiss me!”
Scarlet is the perfect velvety and matte dark red lipstick, but grab it fast because it’s a limited edition shade. After first trying Bite’s High Pigment Pencil at Sephora, I found it quick and easy to apply and the color packed quite a punch; with just one application the color was super rich and vibrant.
If it’s your first time wearing red lipstick and you’re a little intimidated to apply a shade as dark as this, I suggest layering the color little by little. Try applying it with a disposable lip gloss applicator, just like the ones you find at Sephora.
Well there you have it. I hope these products help you get glamourous and smoldering femme fatale lips that are ready for the Christmas party season. If you’ve tried any of the products mentioned above, do let me know what you thought in the comments box below.
