I’m all about the classics around this time of year—classic cocktails (dry gin Martinis garnished with olives), classic Christmas movies (It’s a Wonderful Life), and classic colors (black on black works for just about every occasion). The timeless black on black is almost necessary for when there’s so much going on in my diary that the last thing I want is to have think about what I’m going to wear. Unfortunately ‘monochrome’ and ‘monotonous’ can become synonymous over time. My tip for keeping the classic black on black fresh and not too safe or boring? Shake. It. Up! The textile, that is. Try mixing together as many luxurious textiles you can think of, i.e. sequins, velvet, leather, faux fur, silk, lace, feathers even. The difference in texture will add a dose of glam, but keeping the tones within the same family will make sure your outfit is never too much.
