Hello, lovelies! How was everyone’s weekend? I hope you’ve all had a great one! My weekend was blissfully uneventful. I definitely needed some sun on my face at the end of the work week so a good walk around town was the perfect start. There’s this hill a few blocks away from me that hides this little, quiet, and quaint community away from the traffic of the avenue. I love walking around there when I long for some change of pace.
I also couldn’t wait to break in this pair of mom jeans (yes, MOM JEANS!) I just got. I’ve been eyeing these mom jeans from Topshop for some time now and I finally got around to ordering them online a few weeks ago. Since mom jeans definitely bring me back to the ’90s, I just had to rock them with a nod to the era I grew up in. By the way, mom jeans actually do remind me of my mom’s old pair of jeans, but in a totally good way, know what I mean? The think I remember about mom jeans is, if worn well, they were the epitome of “grown up chic.” If, however, you got an ill-fitting pair you ended up with something known as a “pancake bum.” No one wants a pancake bum. I’m happy to report Topshop’s 2016 reincarnation of the mom jean fits A-okay in all the right places!
Speaking of my mom, I pinched the vintage accessories I’m wearing today from her closet. When in doubt, raid mom’s closet! As for the sunnies I’m wearing, they might as well be heart shaped because I really heart them! Aren’t they fun? They kind of remind me of sunglasses I would have worn as a kid, probably because they’re made of rubber and for some reason make me think of Minnie Mouse.

So, I titled this post ‘Modern Vintage’. I realize that the definition is pretty self-explanatory, but in any case here is my interpretation of what modern vintage means to me. I think there are three elements to the perfect modern vintage outfit. 1. The use of authentic vintage items within an outfit. 2. There’s a “nod” to the style from a past era or eras. And finally, 3. The overall look has to look modern.
