Today’s outfit has two of my favorite vintage finds, a vintage YSL skirt and a vintage leather clutch bag. These pieces have lasted more than twenty years and they still look as gorgeous and relevant as the day they were made. You’ll know you’ve found the perfect vintage find if you feel you can wear it for another ten to twenty years, easy.
This skirt and this bag is now a part of a growing collection of clothes in my closet I’ll call my “thirty-something clothes.” I must come to the admission I’ve officially started to feel old(er). I’m only 32, which don’t get me wrong is not old by any means, but there’s just this very distinct feeling I’m really not in my 20’s anymore (my wider waistline may have something to do with it too!) You’re probably thinking, “Didn’t you have feel this way as soon as you turned 30?” That’s what I thought would happen, but I didn’t. I didn’t feel that way until I looked inside my closet one day last week.
I came to the sudden revelation that the clothes in my closet just don’t feel like me anymore. Clothes should feel like skin. Even if you like changing your look, it should still feel like you and you should definitely feel comfortable it in. I was starting to not feel comfortable wearing the clothes in my closet. So I needed a new look, a look that reflected my older, wiser, thirty-something year old self. After a massive overhaul of my closet, the time had come to focus my wardrobe on quality, tailored pieces that are classic and versatile. There’s still some fun and glamorous pieces in there too, after all there’s still a part of that in me. I’m just learning to be incorporate those pieces into my outfit in a different way now.
I love the feeling of a style revamp. It’s like a great big relaxing sigh at the end of the day. You take in all the good stuff and exhale all the bad stuff. Are you in the midst of a style revamp? If so, how are you transitioning?
