I’m guilty of having a penchant for tie neck bows, especially on soft chiffon blouses or dresses. It’s this little detail around the neckline that can make a seemingly simple item of clothing look dressy, feminine, flirty, and chic. The tie neck bow, which is also referred to as a “pussy bow” or sometimes an “ascot neckline” has been around since the 1800’s. It became popular in America during the 1960’s, designers such as Coco Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent have used tie neck bows in their collections, and for those reading this in the U.K. perhaps the pussy bow conjures up an image of a 1980’s Margaret Thatcher, who used this type of garment to soften up her image while she was in power.
Say what you will about that last statement, but I think tie neck bows are here to stay and have really made a comeback in today’s fashion. Here’s some of our classic vintage tie neck items from the shop. These items, as are all of our pieces are hand-picked with love.
