I realize I’ve been talking a lot about my skincare routine as of late (see here and here). Finding an effective skincare routine is so important, especially if you’ve had years and years of problematic skin like I have. From my teens to my twenties and now into my early thirties, my skin and I have been through a heck of a lot. Acne and excess oil to dryness, peeling, and redness, you name it, my skin’s probably had it…sometimes all at once! Usually the ‘all at once’ bit happens when I’ve suddenly found myself in drastic changes in weather, i.e. while traveling or when the seasons change.
Our skin hates change. I’ve found the worst type of change happens to be environmental since we can’t control the weather that we’re in. Even though that may be so, there are definitely steps that we can take to help our skin stay healthy and balanced even during changing seasons. I’ve found all it takes is a little planning ahead and a really effective skincare routine, like Pour Moi’s climate-sensitive line.
How Does Pour Moi Work?
Pour Moi is the first ever skincare line specifically formulated to help your skin be in harmony with changing environments. They have four different day creams for four different climates—temperate, tropical, desert, and polar. Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I heard about Pour Moi’s climate adjusting skincare line was, genius. I typically get pretty worried about my skin around this time of year. The cold, dry winter air does my skin no favors, leaving it flaky, irritated, and dry. I’ve been using Pour Moi’s polar day cream along with it’s three-step system for nearly two weeks now. So far my skin has felt soft, hydrated, with no flaking, peeling, or breaking out. What’d I tell you? Genius!
The Three-Step Process
Step One: The Hydrating Balancer. After I wash my face with a gentle cleanser for sensitive skin types, I wipe The Hydrating Balancer onto my skin with a round cotton pad. Basically, it’s a liquid toner that softens, soothes, and helps to balance your skin even under environmental stress.
Step Two: The Serum After the hydrating balancer I pat two drops of the white or black serum onto my face and neck. According to Pour Moi, the black serum is a bit more potent than the white serum in terms of anti-aging properties, so I like to use this serum in the evening during the time when my skin naturally repairs itself. The white serum is the perfect consistency for daytime.
Step Three: The Moisturizer As I mentioned before Pour Moi has four different day creams specifically for four different climates. Since it’s been a typical frigid winter here in NYC, I’ve strictly been using the Polar Climate day cream. I love that it’s very lightweight, which is something I didn’t expect for a day cream meant for dry, winter air. I really thought it’d be heavier but it’s not at all. Its texture is somewhere between a lotion and a cream and it never feels greasy on my face. Instead it leaves my skin feeling hydrated, moisturized, and balanced for the whole day. Pour Moi also has a night cream, which is a little heavier in consistency, but that’s something I really don’t mind. When I wake up my skin always feels perfectly balanced and never dry so that’s a sign I know that it’s working.
What’s in Pour Moi?
I’m someone who always checks the ingredients list to any product before I put it on my face. As I mentioned earlier, I have very sensitive skin so I’m pretty particular about the ingredients I choose to put on it. Anything too harsh will make my skin break out, irritated, and flaky. I’m happy to report my skin hasn’t negatively reacted to any of Pour Moi’s ingredients since I’ve started using it. Here’s a list of some of Pour Moi’s key ingredients.
- Lactic acid and salicylic acid to eliminate dead skin cells.
- Hyaluronic acids and glycerin to trap water molecules and keep moisture into your skin.
- Palmitoyl tripeptide-38, a powerful anti–wrinkle peptide to even out skin and smooth out wrinkles.
- Vitamins A, C, E complex (ascorbyl palmitate, tocopherol, retinyl palmitate): vitamin A promotes the enzyme activity of the skin and increases its collagen content. Vitamin E and vitamin C represent an effective combination to act as antioxidants, free radical scavengers and peroxide neutralizers, in this way helping to prevent skin ageing as a result of UV radiation.
- D-Panthenol, also known as pro-vitamin B5, moisturizes, restructures the skin’s barrier, and soothes.
- Ethylene/Acrylic acid copolymer gives a soft-focus cosmetic effect by reflecting the light to minimize the appearance of fine wrinkles and other skin defaults.
I can’t wait to use Pour Moi’s other day creams when the weather changes or if I plan to travel abroad, which unfortunately I’m not at the moment but hey, what a great excuse to do so, right?! 😉 If you’d like to know more about Pour Moi’s climate-sensitive skincare line, feel free to check out their website: www.pourmoibeauty.com.
