I wasn’t planning on wearing that vintage tie as a belt today. Actually, I didn’t even have that tie until ten minutes before taking that photo. As it happens, I had a different belt on that morning. It was an old rope belt with a tassel on one end. Unfortunately I must have not tied it on tight enough because somewhere along the line I realized I had lost the belt. It must have come undone when I got off the train. I’m not gonna lie, it was a little upsetting. That belt was from when I was an intern for an internationally run showroom. It was my very first job in fashion so it had some sentimental value to me.
I was sad to have lost the belt, but between a meeting later on that day and having a bit of time to thrift along the way, here was an opportunity to improvise.
Upon scouring the belt section there clearly weren’t any belts that were going to go with my outfit, but that’s okay. Anyway, I didn’t really think a regular belt could replace my belt with the tassel, so what do I do when all else fails? I check out the men’s section! If you don’t already know I love shopping the men’s section. That vintage silk tie caught my eye almost straight away. I knew the color would pop against my black pants and it was soft enough to tie around my waist, all in all it was perfect.
At the end of the day a good thing came out of an unfortunate situation. I got to my meeting with an awesome new accessory, which got loads of flattering comments by the way, and I scored a few more vintage finds for the shop. Don’t you love it when that happens?
