I found this vintage slip dress a few weeks ago and it was immediately love at first sight. Minimalistic, chic, luxurious, it’s the perfect ’90s throwback. What I love most about this dress is that it’s both urban and bohemian. Sort of like ’90s Kate Moss. ’90s Kate Moss would have definitely worn a dress like this, no? To complete the outfit and the urban/bohemian vibe, I added a vintage wooden bag and a pair of on point metallic slippers.
Two weeks ago I posted about how to wear a different kind of slip dress. In that post I mentioned how difficult it can be to style a dress that looks a lot like lingerie. A comment was made about how curvier figures, especially those curvy up top, find the slip dress a little too revealing for their body type. I hear ya, ladies! I definitely would feel self conscious if I wore this dress in public without wearing anything up top along with it. When dresses have a low-plunging neckline I like to top it with something basic, like this soft white knit tank. The softness keeps the silhouette slim and you can always add a cool little detail, such as a knot, to add a little interest. By cropping the top in this way you’re drawing the eye upwards and lengthening the body—perfect if you’re a petite girl like me.
I’ve already started seeing slip dresses in the high street shops as part of their Fall collections. If you love the slip dress look, think about investing in them now. After all this is the perfect transition piece and there really is nothing more effortless than slipping something on. For now its airiness is perfect for the hotter temperatures. When Fall comes around you can always pair it with a satin bomber jacket or a perfectly tailored blazer for when it gets cooler.
